France: Round 8. Victory for Ajaccio, Sete e Toulouse.
2 min read
The first three games of Round 8 of the French league, played tonight, have just ended. What happened? Victory in four sets (and I add, surprisingly) for Ajaccio on the field of Poitiers, another defeat of Nice away, this time in Toulouse, and five-set battle between Sete and Tourcoing.
So, great performance of Ajaccio that, led by Thimotée Carle, author of a very good match, managed to take three points. The top scorer scored 23 points, with a good 66% attack, while his team-mate Milan Pepic added 18. Poitiers, on the other hand, played very subdued, Jochen Schops, as usual, was the best scorer of his team with 15 points , but only 32% in attack. His team-mate Marc Zopie, despite the defeat, has really achieved a great performance with 5 winning blocks!
Great battle of Sete, and fortunately for the home fans, they finally celebrated after 5 incredible sets. Vasili Tupchii led his team to victory, and scored 30 points. That he is a great player I knew it, but after this game, any doubt is gone! Grozdanov was also excellent, with 21 points, a marvelous 71% in attack and three winning blocks. Nothing to do for Tourcoing, who nevertheless back to home with one well deserved point.
Many, indeed, too many ups and downs for Nice this year, which suffers another defeat away. However, congratulations to Toulouse for the great match. Apart the second set, in which Nice showed something and won it, the home team did not have many problems to take 3 points. Robin Overbeeke won a set alone (26 points for him, with 53% attack), but the opposite was not enough to back to home with at least one point, and not even the 6 winning blocks (6!!!!) of Ah-Kong. In the winning side, the top scorer was Jordan Corteggiani with 19 points.
Poitiers-Ajaccio 1:3
Sete-Tourcoing 3:2
Toulouse-Nice 3:1
