Ex-Germany national team player Sebastian Schwarz retires

Ex-Germany national team player, one-time Olympian, Sebastian Schwarz has ended his career.
At only 33-year-old, the German Sebastian Schwarz retired from professional volleyball, announcing his decision at the post-season ceremony of his current club United Volleys Frankfurt for which he competed in the last two seasons, as captain. In the last season, he was struggling with a back injury which probably speeded up his decision of finishing career.
“I think this is the right moment to put an end to this, after having a really great time here. I had a wonderful 15 years. To be able to play at this level for so long is a real privilege, for which I am eternally grateful,” said Schwarz and also added that he now wants to turn to other things in life, mainly to his wife and little daughter.
In his career, the outside hitter has won the 2007 CEV Champions League with VfB Friedrichshafen, German Championship twice also with VfB Friedrichshafen, German Cup four times with VfB Friedrichshafen and Hypo Tirol AlpenVolleys Haching twice each, and a Polish Cup with Trefl Gdańsk’s jersey. With national team of Germany, he lifted the trophy in the 2009 CEV European League and won a bronze medal in the 2014 FIVB World Championship. Schwarz had also the honor to take part in the 2012 London Olympics.
