The two semi-final matches of the Efelerligi were played yesterday.
Fenerbahçe shocked Halkbank and eliminated them from the 2018/19 Turkish Efelerligi playoffs!
After winning the turkish Supercup and the regular season, Halkbank Ankara was eliminated in two matches by the Turkish Cup winner Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahçe entered the playoffs as the No.5 seed, barely making a positive record in the regular season (12-10) but managed to eliminate three-time consecutive titleholders and also top seed Halkbank in the semifinals!
In game two the good performaces of Luburic (54% in attack), Subasi (56% in attack) and Capkinoglu (100% in attack, 3 blocks and 3 aces) were not enough against the team of coach Sordyl that, after a match always very balanced, it won thanks to a more effective service (9 aces against 4, 4 only signed by the middle-blocker Karasu) and the points of Ter Maat (22 points with 46% in attack, 3 blocks and 1 ace) and Hidalgo (19 points with 47% in attack and 2 aces).
Fenerbahçe will face the second seed Arkas Spor in the playoff finals. Arkas also swept their rivals, No.3 seed Galatasaray, winning Game 2 in the tie-break. The performances of Lagumdzija (36 points with 64% attack, 1 block and 3 aces), Gulmezoglu (20 points and 47% in attack) and the series at service of Taht (4 aces and 3 errors on 26 services performed) were decisive.
It was precisely the Estonian who broke the tie-break by throwing his team at 5-0, the rivals which instead had been good at canceling 2 match points in the 3rd set and to make a comeback from 23-20 in the 4th set. Estonian Oliver Venno scored 22 points for Galatasaray but he wasn’t enough.
