Another Cuban might join León in Poland national team in near future: middle-blocker David Fiel

2 min read

The debut of Wilfredo León for Poland Volleyball national team is, of course, a hot topic this week. But there is another mew: one of his compatriot might follow his footsteps and apply for Polish citizenship as well. He is David Fiel, who competes in the Polish top division.
The 25-year-old middle blocker, who is currently a member of 9-time PlusLiga champions PGE Skra Bełchatów, was deeply touched by the way León has been supported in his way towards getting Polish citizenship and gaining the right to play for Poland national team.

I feel very excited to see my ’brother’ making his dream come true! He’s an amazing player and I saw him working hard to achieve this goal! So, I can feel very happy just as he feels! And I wish him all the best – and congratulations!“ he said the player, who won the 2014 Pan-American Cup and took part in the 2014 FIVB World Championship with Cuba national team, stated in an interview for Skra website.

He was asked if he was also thinking of getting Polish citizenship and he admitted that he was considering it.
I like the question! (laughs). To be honest, soon I’ll be here for 4 years, so it’s something that I’m thinking about all the time. I really like Poland, its culture, people and how important for them is volleyball. I feel that my present and future is here, in Poland. I have a big part of my life here: my wife, my career and, for sure, our family soon. I hope that, as soon as possible, you’ll be able to call me the Polish guy with Cuban heart!” He married a Polish woman in 2015, added.
