According to Russian website championat.com, Cuba will play the FIVB International Qualifying Tournament for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Saint Petersburg (August 9-11) without Robertlandy Simón, Michael Sánchez and Raydel Hierrezuelo.
Even if these 3 players successfully completed negotiations with the Cuban Volleyball Federation (FCV) on returning to the national team and were re-registered as players eligible to compete for Cuba, it was decided that they will make their debuts in the North American qualifying tournament which will be held on January 2020, in case Cuba fail to do so via upcoming International Qualifiers.
Recall that Cuba will face the hosts Russia, Iran and Mexico in the Saint Petersburg tournament, whose winners will be promoted to the Olympics in Tokyo.
