The 32-year-old middle blocker Robertlandy Simón made a discreet re-debut for Cuba Volleyball National Team after nine years. He marked his return with 10 points (8 in the attack and 2 winning blocks) in the match against Canada at the 2019 NORCECA Champions Cup in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA (August 22-25). Recall that he and two more players made an agreement with the Cuban Volleyball Federation on their return to the national team.
In this match, Cuba beat Canada at tie break (25:19, 19:25, 25:17, 22:25, 15:11) to successfully open the tournament whose winners will advance to the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier, scheduled for next January. The teams that participate in the 2019 NORCECA Champions Cup are the hosts USA, Cuba, Canada and Puerto Rico. If the United States claim the gold medal, the team that takes the second place will go to the Qualifier, because the USA assured its presence at the 2020 Tokyo Games in both competitions.
