Simón named MVP and his Cuba win NORCECA Champions Cup!

Cuba won the 2019 NORCECA Volleyball Champions Cup in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA.
The middle blocker Robertlandy Simón elevated the play of Cuba already in his first competition upon returning to the National Team. His Cuba finished the 2019 NORCECA Champions Cup at the top spot with a 3-0 record after they defeated Canada in five sets, the USA by a 3-1 (25:19, 25:23, 22:25, 25:14) and finally, Puerto Rico in straight sets, partially 30:28, 25:17 and 25:22. Yohan León led Cuba in decisive match with 14 points, while Robertlandy Simón added 12 and Jesús Herrera served 4 aces. Pedro Molina was the top scorer of Puerto Rico with 14 points. Simón was named MVP and Best Blocker of the tournament!

The 2019 NORCECA Champions Cup is a part of the NORCECA Olympic Qualifier whose overall winners will progress to the final qualifier in January 2020. The United States have secured the Tokyo ticket in both competitions so the second-best team at the end of the series of continental qualifications will go to the final qualifications in January in case the USA finish the top seed.
The next tournament, the penultimate, in the series of NORCECA Olympic Qualifier will be held in Winnipeg, Canada (September 1-8).
