The Italian Volleyball team Calzedonia Verona announced that they have reached an agreement with the U.S. National Team member Garrett Muagututia for the current season.
This summer, the 31-year-old Muagututia competed in the FIVB Volleyball Nations League, in which he won the silver medal, and in the FIVB Intercontinental Qualifier, in which he helped his team earn a promotion to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The outside hitter came to Verona from the Greek runners-up P.A.O.K.
He came as a replacement for his compatriot Thomas Jaeschke who dislocated his right shoulder in the 2019 FIVB World Cup match between the USA and Poland and will be sidelined for a long time. This will be the second season in a row which Jaeschke will not start from the beginning. Actually, he missed out entire last season after injuring his left knee in the 2018 FIVB Nations League.
Verona will not be Muagututia’s first experience in Italy, but will be his first experience in the Italian top division. In fact he played in Sieco Service Ortona in the 2012/13 season, in which the club competed in the second division (Serie A2).
