Round 7 of the French Ligue A was completed this evening with the victory of the current leaders Rennes over Tourcoing, Ajaccio who is defeated on the field of Poitiers and Nantes who wins away against Narbonne. Several teams swapped places at the top of the 2019/20 Ligue A Masculine regular season. Now, it was time for Rennes to claim the first position!
In details, Rennes fights for four sets on the Tourcoing field, and eventually manages to claim 3 points and fly on the the top of the standings with 17 points, overtaking Montpellier (15).
Have made a difference, among other things, the 11 kill blocks against the 4 of the hosts, and the lackluster performance of Jimenez, author of 13 points with only 38% in attack, definitely below his levels usual, but above all the brutal display of Brazilian opposite Rafael Araújo, author of 34 points, and defensive performance of Argentine libero Facundo Santucci (81%, 16 digs, 50% excellent). Not even 94% reception (17 digs, 41% excellent) from Julien Lemay and 21 points from Serbian Miran Kujundžić didn’t help Tourcoing.
Start of season definitely below expectations for Ajaccio, who suffers its fourth defeat on the field of Poitiers, who wins in four sets. Although the match was fought and balanced until the end, this was not enough. Neves and El Graoui were the top scorers for the winners, with 26 and 21 points respectively, while Parkinson also contributed with 5 kill blocks. Truhtchev and Ben Tara made 14 points each for Ajaccio, while Bruckert also made 5 kill blocks.
A fantastic Michalovic led Nantes to the victory on the Narbonne field. The Slovak opposite scored 29 points, including 4 aces, and 54% in attack, while middle-blocker Henry also contributed with 5 kill blocks (12 points in total and 72% in attack!).
