Turkey: Ziraat win the derby against Halkbank led by Escobar

The “banking“ derby of the Round 15 of the 2019/20 Turkish 2019/20 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi regular season, after the disappointing beginning of the season, was win by Ziraat Bankası who have seriously returned to the battle for the top spot in competition. In the derby, they broke the resistance of Halkbank only in the tie-break, prolonging the agony of the most-titled male club (out of the existing ones) in Turkey: 3-2 (25:18, 22:25, 25:20, 18:25, 15:13). Cuban Yadrian Escobar was amazing in the winning side, scoring 30 points and tied with Arkas Spor’s Adis Lagumdžija at the top of the scorer’s list at 314 points. Metin Toy scored 20 points for Halkbank who remained 7th in the standings. Now Ziraat moved to the 5th place but now with only 6 points less than the leaders Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta.
By claiming victories today, Spor Toto and Arkas Spor tied at 32 points in the 3rd and 4th place in the standings, respectively.
