Champions League: Stroitel Minsk fall to Draisma Dynamo, Kaposvár one step away from 2nd Round

Three teams made important wins on their way to the 2nd Round of the qualifications for the 2021 CEV Volleyball Champions League.
The Dutch side Draisma Dynamo surprisingly defeated Belarusian representatives Stroitel Minsk on Day 2 of 1st Round, in Pool C, hosted by Jastrzębski Węgiel in Jastrzębie-Zdrój, by a 3-0 (25:23, 25:16, 25:18). Maikel van Zeist and Sjoerd Hoogendoorn scored 11 points each for Dynamo.

Reactions:

Jeroen Rauwerdink, Outside Hitter of Draisma Dynamo Apeldoorn: “It was a difficult match. We saw yesterday’s game and we knew that the team from Belarus is a good-serving team. The difference we made today was our defense. We had this fighting spirit that no balls were touching the ground. From the second set also our serve was going really well. We put pressure on them. I am happy that we are going to play some sort of final for a spot in the next round”.

Vadzim Pranko, middle blocker of Stroitel Minsk: “Unfortunately, after this loss we have no chance to move on to the second round. It is a bit disappointing, but in my opinion we were too nervous today and in yesterday’s game we played against an excellent team. It’s pretty hard to play good volleyball for two days in a row. So we made too many mistakes. We just need to learn something from our loss“.

Unlike their opening match, Croatia’s OK Ribola Kaštela managed to provide the COVID-19 test on time for their second match. So, their temporary suspension by the CEV was removed. However, they lost by a 3-0 to Finland’s Ford Levoranta Sastamala in Pool b in Galați, Romania.

After the withdrawal of Croatia’s Mladost Zagreb, the hosts of Pool A, the remaining two teams were left to fight each other for the progression to the 2nd Round. And, Hungary’s Fino Kaposvár VC came to a step from this after sweeping Albania’s Erzeni Shijakut.
