French Ligue A was played last night…what happened? In first match of the Round, another great victory for Cannes: they beat Montpellier in straights sets! No problems for Tours on the field of Toulouse, Sete at home wins against Paris at tie break, while Tourcoing defeats 3-1 Nantes away. First victory for newcomers Cambrai: they wins away against Ajaccio 3-0! Close the picture victory of Narbonne on Chaumont’s field.
In details…third victory for Cannes in as many games: Tours, Narbonne and now Montpellier, in straight sets, partially 28:26, 26:24 and 26:24! For the guests it was their first game, in fact the duels against Toulouse and Nice, in first two rounds, were postponed for COVID-19 cases in both teams. In first sets Montpellier always led the game, but the hosts manage to recovery from 3:8 and 17:21! Same story also in third, in which Montpellier waste an advantage of 19:21. Lincoln Williams, named MVP of the match, scored 21 points, including 3 aces and 3 winning blocks.

First match also for Toulouse, but nothing to do against Tours. The guests, defending champions, easily won the game in straight sets, partially 15:25 19:25 18:25. Interestingly, in this match, Tours made 18 winning blocks, against zero of the opponents!
Led by outside-hitters Baranek and Geiler, who put down 21 and 19 balls respectively, including 9 and 4 aces (!!!), Sete manages to defeat Paris (still without opposite Overbeeke) at tie break while, despite 25 points by Michalovic, Nantes suffered a home defeat against Tourcoing. 1-3 was the final score. A home defeat also for Ajaccio, against Cambrai. The newcomers won in straight sets, partially 17:25, 21:25, 22:25. Disappoing performance for the home team, despite Kolev’s very good performance: bulgarian outside-hitter made 8 points, including 1 block and 78% in attack.
Close the picture another tie break: Narbonne won on Chaumont’s field after wasting a 0-2 advantage a very balanced game. Simon Hirsch was the top scorer for the winners (and of the match) with 22 points and 55% in attack, while Gueye also contributed with 16, 3 winning blocks and 71% in attack.
Last match of the Round, Nice-Poitiers, postoponed for COVID, is scheduled for October 27.
