Italy: Trento and Verona wins recovery matches of Round 5 and 8

2 min read

Two recovery matches of Italian Superlega played today: Verona, led by a great Kaziyski, wins on the Ravenna field, while Trento continues the ascent, bending Modena in straight sets with a great performance by Lucarelli. This is their first home victory in the competition, while for Modena the fourth defeat in a row.

The fifth date is the good one: after being rescheduled over and over again, the match between Itas Trentino and Leo Shoes Modena was finally played. A duel in which both teams needed to score points to improve a ranking so far disappointing. At the end of the match, however, it is only Trento who rejoices and finally finds the first home victory after an unspectacular match, but conducted almost from start to finish. Led by the MVP Lucarelli and by a greater incisiveness from the service line, Lorenzetti’s team appears increasingly determined on the decisive balls, while Modena on the other hand is unable to find continuity either during the match or within the individual sets, finding themselves almost always chasing rivals. MVP of the match and best scorer among the winners is Lucarelli, who closes the match with 15 points (59% 1 block, 1 ace). 14 points for Abdel- Aziz, subdued in attack (41%) but inspired from the service line (4 aces), 11 for Podrascanin, with 2 blocks and 75% in attack. Luca Vettori top-scored on the other side of the net, with 17 points and 57% in attack.

On the other match, NBV Verona, led by the excellent performance of their captain Matey Kaziyski, wins in straight sets in Ravenna, interrupting the series of three consecutive knockouts, and taking home 3 very important points for the standings. Effective block, good defense and, despite Jensen’s absence, an amazing performance in attack, with Jaeschke and Kaziyski sharing the MVP award. For the hosts (today without Recine) this is the 9 defeat out of 10 games played, for a really poor standings.
