Austria: Ried to the winter break as leader of the intermediate round! Klagenfurt third.

UVC Weberzeile Ried secured the lead in the DenizBank AG VL intermediate round in the last match before the winter break, by beating on their home court the newcomers and last-placed TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg on Saturday evening by 3-0. Now they are three points ahead of TJ Sokol Vienna V, and both teams have played 14 games.
Ried had difficulties start in the match and was even four points behind. At 13:16, however, the gap come to an end due to a very good defensive performance. From this point on, the Ried played better. Top scorers of the match were Tomasz Rutecki and Niklas Stooß with 18 and 11 points respectively, while Maximilian Schedl tallied 16 for Hartberg.
On the other Saturday’s match, VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt scored an away victory in decisive duel for third place against VBC TLC Weiz. Thus, with a 3:1 (25:20, 20:25, 25:23, 25:21), they went into the winter break as third-placed of the intermediate round which lasts until January 23rd.
Michael Pekar (18) and Jakob Grasserbauer (15) were the top scorers on the home time, while Simon Frühbauer (17) and Benedikt Sablatnig (14) led in score the winners. Despite Weiz scored more points in attack (51 to 44) and aces (6 to 1), the winners were clearly superior on the block (15 to 5) and made fewer mistakes (27 to 35).
