Italy: Lube win marathon in a classic against Perugia to end rival’s winning streak, three points for Modena

2 min read

Cucine Lube Civitanova surpassed the home side of Sir Safety Conad Perugia in a marathon super classic of the Italian Volleyball. In the big match, valid for a delayed Round 10 of the 2020/21 SuperLega Credem Banca regular season, Lube beat leaders after a battle lasted five sets (22:25, 30:28, 25:18, 18:25, and 15:12). Thus, Lube got promoted into the winners of the first part of the season, even though they are seven points behind Perugia in the charts. In Italian club volleyball, the classification of the first part of the season determines match-ups of the quarter-finals of the national cup, which this season will be played on January 27. Cuban-Brazilian Yoandy Leal had an amazing performance for the winners with 24 points, while Simone Anzani made 5 blocks. Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León tallied 23 points for Perugia, whose six-game winning streak came to an end.

In today’s other recovery match valid for the same round, Leo Shoes Modena makes himself a Christmas present by winning 3-1 against NBV Verona. The rivals, without the Swedish opposite Jensen unable to play this recovery because he was registered at a later date than the original match date, proposed Matey Kaziyski in the role of opposite (who receives). Modena took advantage of Verona’s 12 errors in the first set to fuel, thwarting 6 set balls in the second set, won basically by Kaziyski himself (9 points in this set, 19 in total) and then conquered three very important points.
