Maribor cement Mevza League top spot with a clear home victory over Waldviertel

In the first Mevza League match after Christmas break, the leaders of OK Merkur Maribor (SLO), after first set, celebrate a clear victory over Final Four tournament hosts Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel (AUT) on their home court. Partially it was 22:25, 25:17, 25:18, 25:19. As a result, they increased their points to 23 on a 7-3 win-loss record, while the rivals suffered their fifth defeat in eight MEVZA League matches they have played this season so far. Rok Mozic and Ahmed Ikhbayri top scored for the winners with 18 and 16 points respectively, while Marek Sulc made 13 points on the other side of the net. The hosts were clearly better in attack (52% vs 33%).
The competition is already going to continue next Wednesday, when bottom of the table UVC Holding Graz (AUT) will face OK Calcit Kamnik (SLO) and Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel will face defending champions ACH Volley Ljubljana (SLO).
