Mevza League: Ljubljana defeats Waldviertel on the road, Kamnik move up to third place

The Mevza League main round continued with two matchs on Wednesday evening: defending champions ACH Volley Ljubljana from Slovenia secured a 3-1 (25:19, 25:18, 23:25, 25:21) away win over Final Four tournament hosts Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel from Austria. Thus, the second-placed winners increased their points to 21 on a 7-2 win-loss score and they closed the gap to table leaders OK Merkur Maribor to two points. The hosts, on the other hand, are still in the fifth place, with three wins and six defeats in the competion.
Jan Pokersnik and Mitar Tzourits were the top scorers for the winners with 20 points each, while Marek Šulc and Maciej Borris top scored for Waldviertel with 14 and 12 points, respectively. The CEV Champions League participants were much better in attack (44% vs 54%) and at blocking (12 – 4).
On the other match of the day, OK Calcit Kamnik from Slovenia came back from one set down to win in four sets (15:25, 25:20, 25:15, 25:14) over last-placed UVC Holding Graz from Austria.
As a result, the Slovenians moved up to third place in the current standing with 13 points, surpassing Austrians of SK Zadruga AICH/DOB, while the competition rookies have not been able to collect a single point from the eight matches they have played so far.
Calcit Volley’s Jan Klobucar was the player of the match with an amazing performance with 20 points, while his teammate Mitja Gasparini also contributed with 13. Tiago Pereira and Clemens Unterberger were the best scorers for the hosts with 9 and 8 points, respectively. The match stats underline a clear superiority of the winners: attack 62% vs 50%, blocks 8 vs 4, aces 4 vs 1 and errors 28 – 30.
