The trophy of the Italian Volleyball Cup ended up in the hands of the Cucine Lube Civitanova for the second season in a row, 7th time in total.
The team coached by Ferdinando De Giorgi repeated their 2020 conquest of Del Monte® Coppa Italia as they beat Sir Safety Conad Perugia by a 3-1 (25:17, 18:25, 25:17, 25:17) in the final held at Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna).
The team commanded by Vital Heynen seemed to be the bad copy of the one that had trampled over Itas Trento in the semifinal yesterday.
Cuban-Brazilian Yoandy Leal and his former teammate in the Cuba National Team, Roberlandy Simón, both scored 17 points for the winning side. However, the latter included 8 blocks in his output and was (deservedly) awarded MVP of the gold medal duel. Another player of Cuban origin, Wilfredo León, stood out in the match but for the silver medalists with 21 points, the The Dutchman Thijs Ter Horst set up 4 blocks.
It was the fourth successive Cup final between Lube and Perugia and Lube’s fifth successive alone.
These two rivals will face each other again in 3 days in a direct duel for winning the 2020/21 SuperLega Credem Banca regular season.
