Coppa Italia: Lube and Perugia in final again! León destroys Trento with 8 aces
2 min read
Just like one year ago, Cucine Lube Civitanova and Sir Safety Conad Perugia dominantly progressed to the final of the 2020/21 Italian Volleyball Cup.
Cucine Lube Civitanova reached the final of the Italian Del Monte® Coppa Italia for the 5th consecutive year and tomorrow night will go out on the court to defend the trophy they won a year ago in the same city and hall at which next gold medal encounter will take place: Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno (Bologna).
Ferdinando De Giorgi’s team won the semifinal against a very combative Leo Shoes Modena in straight sets, partially 27:25, 25:22, and 25:21. Cuban-Brazilian Yoandy Leal was the most prolific player for Lube’s victory, putting down 19 points while Luca Vettori, in probably his best game this season, scored 21 for Modena.
In the other semifinal, Sir Safety Conad Perugia swept a literally unrecognizable Itas Trento. Led by an amazing Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León, author of 27 points with 71 % attack – 15/21, blocked 1 time, 8 aces and 4 blocks, the team coached by Vital Heynen dominated the match against the rivals who had arrived at this match with 16 consecutive victories between domestic competitions and CEV Champions League. Brazilian Ricardo Lucarelli was the only player on the losing side in double digits in scoring with 10 points while the top scorer of Trentino and SuperLega, the Dutchman Nimir Abdel-Aziz heavily underperformed with only 6 points and 26% in attack.
Maybe you don’t know that Cucine Lube Civitanova and Sir Safety Perugia will meet in the Cup final for the third season in a row!
