Challenge Cup: Milano beats Ziraat at tie break again and lift the trophy!

1 min read

Allianz Powervolley Milano wins the CEV Challenge Cup: this is the first historic success for the Italian team. The 3-2 home win over Ziraat Bankasi Ankara a week ago is also repeated in Turkey, delivering the European title to Milano.
The clash between both teams was highlighted by twists and turns but the winners were better on the serve (6 aces) and block (13), making these two elements the key to the success. The victory of the team coached by Roberto Piazza came at the end of a very complicated match in which Ziraat had the opportunity to extend it to the Golden Set given they had 2-1 in sets.
Jean Patry from the winners’ side recorded 26 points (including 2 aces and 5 winning blocks) and became MVP of the finals. Tine Urnaut also contributed with 17 for his team’s victory. For the Turkish side, Ter Maat finished with 21 points, while Martin Atanasov added 20.
