Poland: ZAKSA fall in Game 1 of finals – Jastrzębski celebrate! Warszawa win game 1 for 3rd place

Jastrzębski Węgiel won the opening duel of the 2020/21 Polish Plusliga finals against Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
The 2nd-seed beat the defending champions and top-seed ZAKSA by a 3-1 (16:25, 25:23, 25:19, 25:21) and took the lead in the series. ZAKSA were the favorites, but the rivals didn’t succumb to PlusLiga dominators, coming within reach of the title given the finals are played up to 2 wins.
Frenchman Yacine Louati and Tomasz Fornal (named MVP of the match with 71% in attack) scored 17 points each for Jastrzębski.
Łukasz Kaczmarek tallied 20 points for ZAKSA, while Jakub Kochanowski made 4 blocks. The second match will take place on April 18, results and program below.
In duel for 3rd place, which worth a place in the next Champions League, VERVA Warzawa ORLEN Paliwa win at tie break on the field of PGE Skra Belchatow. Despite the blows suffered in the first and third set, the team from Polish capital wins the tie-break. 5 match points canceled by the winning side in the decisive set (at 14:13, 15:14, 16:15, 17:16 and 18:17). Among the hosts, good performance for the young Sawicki, on the field instead of the injured Sander (season ended due to an ankle injury remedied in Game 3 of the semifinal which will result in at least 3 weeks off).
