Russia: Let’s go! Dinamo LO stun Kemerovo, Dinamo Moscow win at tie break against Belgorod and the others of Round 1

3 min read

The Russian Super League started yesterday, Saturday. The upset of Round 1 was Dinamo LO, in which Serbs Jovovic and Ivovic play, that won at the tie-break on the field of Kuzbass Kemerovo with 3 partial wins with great merit (in the fifth set Markin had the ball to complete the comeback from 10:14, but he attacked out) and lost 2 clearly.
With more points scored, the hosts closed the match with better numbers in all elements, but paid the 36 point errors. Among the winners, the man of the match was Zhigalov with 20 points, 56% in attack and 44% efficiency, 1 block and 1 ace.
Another tie-break took place in Moscow, where the strengthened Belgorod came close to winning against reigning champions of Dinamo. Below 1-2, the entries of Shchkulyavichus (7 points and 70% in attack on 10 balls) and Bogdan (9 points, 8 on 12 in attacks with 0 errors and 0 blocked, 1 ace) in place of Sokolov and Podlesnykh, were decisive. For Dinamo Moscow, Semyshev was the top scorer with 24 points (56% in attack, 33% efficiency, 1 block and 3 aces), while excellent performances of Al Hachdadi’s (27 points, 50% in attack and 43% efficiency, 2 blocks and 3 ace) and the young Tetyukhin (19 points, 64% in attack and 1 block) were not enough for Belgorod.
As for the other matches, no surprises: predictable 3-0 wins of Zenit Kazan on the reworked Yenisey Krasnoyarsk (with Klets and Iereshchenko on the bench), Lokomotiv Novosibirsk on the modest Gazprom Surgut, and Zenit St. Petersburg (still without Poletaev) on the equally modest Neftyanik Orenburg.
More unexpected was the 0-3 between Ural Ufa and ASK Nizhniy Novgorod in a direct clash between 2 teams destined for the second half of the charts.
The match of Fakel, which has 4 players involved in the Junior World Championship, has been postponed and is now scheduled on December, 21.
