Poland: winning debuts also for Zawiercie, Katowice and Warszawa

2 min read

Another 3 games of Round 1 of Polish Plusliga were played yesterday, on Sunday.
In the first match of the day Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie defeated Slepsk Malow Suwalki 3-1 led by Kovacevic, also named MVP of the game.
Facundo Conte’s debut was negative, but Orczyk’s entry made up for the Argentine’s bad day. Interestingly, for part of the third and fourth sets, the winners lined up an all left-handed attacking line: Kovacevic, Orczyk and Malinowski!
This match was followed by a battle between GKS Katowice and Trefl Gdansk (without Lipinski).
The hosts won the first 2 sets, but the guests reacted thanks also to the entry of Laba in place of Reichert. In the tie-break Gdansk seems to place the decisive break from 7-5 to 7-10, but Katowice takes advantage of a great evening in serving (10 aces and 16 errors, against 3 aces and 22 errors) and reacts, and then places the final break from 12-12 to 15-12, thanks to the serves of the setter Ma’a (22 serves in total, 2 aces and 4 errors), and he was also awarded MVP of the match.
Finally, in the evening, excellent debut for Warsaw who wins with a clear 3-0 on the field of Radom. Coach Bednaruk’s side fights only in the third set, and eventually surrendered on the attack of middle-blocker Wrona (23-25).
