Mevza League: defending champions Ljubljana and Aich/Dob win weekend’s matches

2 min read

Two Mevza League’s matches were played this weekend: on Saturday evening, defending champions ACH Volley Ljubljana from Slovenia started their campaign with an amazing performance against their compatriots OK Calcit Kamnik.
They came from one set down to celebrate a 3-1 (20:25, 25:19, 25:19, 25:22) home victory. Nikola Gjorgiev and Alen Sket top scored for the winners with 19 and 17 points, respectively, while Miha Bregar (19) and Martin Kosmina (17) were OK Calcit Kamnik’s top scorers.

ACH Volley Ljubljana coach Mladen Kasic: “In the first set, the opponent had an excellent block and reception, which was a result of our not strong enough serves. We started to serve better in the second half of the match, which was the key to today’s success. I have to admit that I was positively surprised by Kamnik’s play in the absence of their opposite hitter Gasparini.

On Sunday, Austria’s national champions UVC Holding Graz suffered a bad defeat against SK Zadruga Aich/Dob in another national derby.
The away team needed just 66 minutes to take to a clear straight-sets win (25:15, 25:19, 25:18).
For Graz this was second defeat in Mevza League a row, while AICH/DOB started the competion in style.
The top scorer was AICH/DOB’s Marino Marelic, who scored 16 points, while Johannes Kratz and Sergej Drobnic top scored for GRAZ with 10 points each.

Martin Micheu, sports director SK Zadruga AICH/DOB: “We delivered a very solid performance today, but we should not overestimate this result. The hosts, that is to say, had to compete without Lorenz Koraimann and Lukas Kühl. We are satisfied, but there is definitely still room for improvement. However, our start of the season was successful.
