In the first of the two matches of the third and last preliminary round, The champions of Bulgaria Hebar Pazardzhik (still without Italian head coach PlacƬ, absent for health reasons) obtained a heavy 3-point victory against Greek of Olympiacos Piraeus, winning in four sets (26:24, 25:18, 20:25, 25:23).
In the final of the fourth set, the host formation made a comeback from 23-18 to 23-23, but at the first match point a counterattack by italian outside-hitter Massari closed the game.
