Mevza League: tie break win for Waldviertel on the field of Spartak Myjava
2 min read
Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel needed five sets to defeat hosts TJ Spartak Myjava 25:23, 18:25, 25:27, 26:24 and 16:14 in the Mevza League Main Round on Wednesday evening.
Thus, they moved up to fourth place in the current standing now with 13 points (5-4 win-loss record), while the Slovakian team, on the other hand, dropped to 2-7.
Daulton Sinoski (27) and Marek Sulc (22) were the top scorers of the match among the winners, while Patrik Pokopec (19) and Erik Watzka (16) top-scored on the other side of the net.
Martin Pipa, head coach TJ Spartak Myjava: “That was not the performance we had planned. We were not able to put enough pressure on them with our serve. We also committed a lot of errors in attack. Nevertheless, we were leading 2:1, but we did not manage to finish the match successfully. Congratulations to URW on that victory.”
Zdenek Smejkal, head coach Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel: “If spectators could have been here tonight, they would have seen a match that they definitely would have liked. It was a very close game, as the result confirms, but both teams also committed many mistakes. At the end of the tie-breaker we were the luckier, but also slightly more courageous team.”
Already today, on Thursday, Waldviertel will be facing last-placed VKP Bratislava.
