France: another defeat for Cannes – 1-3 on the field of a very good Cambrai in Round 15

4 min read

With the exception of three postponed matches for COVID, 4 of the 6 matches scheduled for Round 15 of Ligue A were played tonight.
A great Nice defeats favorite Narbonne on the road at tie break, the same result of Chaumont, on the field of Paris Volley.
Home victory for Tourcoing, who defeats Toulouse by 3-1, and home four sets win also for Cambrai against defending champions Cannes, more and more last in the standings.
Led by opposite Mitrasinovic, top scorer and MVP of the match with 21 points, 2 aces, 2 winning blocks and 52% in attack, and basically better in all elements, the winners can celebrate three very important points for the current charts, and their fifth win of this season.
In addition to MVP, good performance in attack for Cambrai, with a good 52% in this element, and great game also for Villard, author of 17 points, 1 ace 1 block and 70% in attack, and Osoria, who contributed with 5 winning blocks.

Very balanced first set, until a Cannes’ attack from the second line, is fouling out, and an ace by Osoria signs the first double advantage of the match, 6-4.
Cambrai tries to escape, forcing especially from the service line, but a great defense from Gelinski finalized by Wendt keeps the guests anchored to the score, and a Cambrai’s foul worth the -1, 9-8. An attack from Wendt levels the score, 11-11, and Cannes takes the lead, 12-13. Mitrasinovic’s error in attack gives the guests a double advantage, 16-18, and Cambrai is forced to stop the game with a time out. Villard in attack, an ace from Mitrasinovic and a winning block from Osoria over Wendt are worth the 19-19, and another ace brings the home team ahead again, 20-19.
But Cannes disagrees: Klyamar in attack, an error by Villard from the service line, and a contrast under the net won by Koncilja give the guests the set point: 21-24. After the time out Osoria signs the 22-24, but the same Koncilja closes with a winning attack: 22-25.

Despite an escape attempt by the home team at the very start, a block by Koncilja levels the score of a second set that begins in a very balanced way.
An ace from Ropret and an error by Cveticanin sign the 8-6 for Cambrai, and coach Matjasevic changes the setter: out Gelinski, in Batak, who misses the 10-7 serve.
Two consecutive aces by Yago Dutra and a block by Mitrasinovic on Wendt (who is replaced by Annicette) are worth the 13-7. After the time out, the guests react, scoring 4 points in a row, but Mitrasinovic (who recently joined Cambrai after Tupchii’s injury) stops the comeback, attacking the ball of 14-11.
After a disputed point, Cannes tries again, but at 16-12 the defending champions are forced to call another time out. Klyamar, author of a great performance so far with 9 points, and Koncilja, try another comeback and an error revealed by the video check lead Cannes to -1, but with Sossenheimer miss the attack that could have been worth the equality, which is only postponed: ace di Batak, and it is 19-19.
A series of great defenses by the hosts, finalized by Villard, author of two consecutive points, an attack and a winning block, give the set ball to Cambrai, which closes with Mitrasinovic: 25-22.

In the third set, Cannes had a better start, but Mitrasinovic signs the attack of 4-4.
Yago Dutra from the service line worths Cambrai’s double advantage, 8-6, while a block by Villard on Sossenheimer, an ace by Jecmenica over Annicette, 11-7, and a winning block by Osoria, the 13-8.
Half comeback of Cannes with two consecutive points, but a foul (non-existent) whistled against the guests is worth the 15-10 in favor of the rivals, who sign the 16-11 with a point from the setter Ropret.
After an embarrassing 18-11, Cannes is forced to ask for a time out, but two winning blocks continue the winning run of the hosts, who sign a (deserved) 21-12. An error by Yago Dutra, a point in attack by Wendt and an ace by Koncilja are worth the 21-15, but the difference in points is abysmal, and the set ends with a clear 25-18, with at least one very important points for Cambrai.

The fourth set is absolutely balanced, at least, until 11-9, with Villard’s ace over a Batak reinvented outside-hitter in place of Klyamar.
A double advantage that is maintained even with the error in serving by Koncilja, 13-11, and Yago Dutra attacks the ball of 14-11.
Cannes tries again with Batak, who attacks the ball of 16-15, and an error in attack by Osoria levels the score: 16-16.
But Villard in attack and a block by Osoria are worth the double advantage again, with the guests who stop the game at 18-16.
But it’s useless: Osoria blocks Batak, 19-16, Villard in attack 20-17, and another block by Osoria: 21-17.
The gap is practically insurmountable, with Mitrasinovic who attacks the ball of 23-19, and Yago Dutra the one of the set point: 24-20. Annicette cancels the first match point, and Cambrai asks for a time out, to definitively close the games with an error by Sossenheimer from the service line: 25-21.

For Cannes, thus, who is still waiting for new opposite Jimenez, another game to forget, a result which worth the 13th defeat this season in 15 matches, last place in the current standings, and another disappointing performance.
