On Saturday, OK Calcit Kamnik secured three very important points in the race for a Final Four spot of 2021/22 Mevza League.
The Slovenian team needed 94 minutes to celebrate a 3-1 (25:15, 23:25, 25:21, 25:14) win over HAOK Mladost Zagreb on their home court.
Tommi Siirilä and Jan Klobucar top scored the hosts with 12 and 11 points, respectively, while Kruno Nikacevic (13) and Ivan Zeljkovic (12) were the best scorers on the other side of the net.
As a result, the winners moved up to third place in the current standing now three points ahead of Croatia’s reigning national champions and eight points behind second-placed OK Merkur Maribor.
Leaders ACH Volley Ljubljana and host SK Zadruga AICH/DOB are already qualified to Final Four.
Matija Plesko, head coach OK Calcit Kamnik: “We were also leading in the second set and then we let up for a moment. But all in all, we delivered a solid performance. We paid a lot of attention to their opposite Boris Busa and that was a key that got us the win.”
The competition will continue on Sunday evening, when TJ Spartak Myjava will face final four hosts AICH/DOB.
On Monday the still unbeaten defending champions from Ljubljana will host UVC Holding Graz.
