Turkish Cup: Arkas Izmir lift the trophy! Galatasaray defeated at tie break.

After successes of 2009 and 2011, Arkas Spor Izmir lift again the 2021/22 Erkekler AXA Sigorta Kupa Voley, turkish cup, after defeating Galatasaray in nearly 2 and a half hours (144 minutes) and after wasted a lead of 22-17 and 24-21 in fourth set.
With Subasi (only 5 points, 33% in attack and -8% efficiency) and Mirza Lagumdzija (12 points, 42% and 5% efficiency in attack) who struggled in attack, decisive for the victory were a great Hoag (22 points, 56% and 41% efficiency in attack, 1
block, 2 aces and 65% positive reception) and, above all, the entrance (from 11-11 of second set) of brasilian opposite Gabriel Candido, who ended the game with 22 points, 52% and 39% efficiency in attack, 3 winning blocks and 2 aces). MVP award, however, to setter UlaĹ KÄąyak. Among Galatasaray, the best was outside hitter Divis, who ended the game with 17 points, 50% and 38% efficiency in attack).
About the match, first set start very balanced, with Galatasaray who try to escape putting down the ball of 15-18. Arkas, however, regain the control of the match taking advantage from the serves of Hoag, including the ace of 22-20. McDonnell closed at second set ball, 25-23.

However Galatasaray don’t give up: counterattack from Divis (22-19), a block from Savas (22-20), and balance until 24-22, when Gabriel Candido (24-23) and Hoag (24-24) send out the balls that could have closed the game. Hoag give also the 24-25 and, on fourth set pount, counterattack from Aydin is worth the tie break, 27-29.
Balance also in fifth set, but then Gabriel Candido block Torres, 4-3, and then Galatasaray collapse with McDonnell from the service line: attack out from Divis (6-4), Hoag’s block over Aydin (7-4), counterattack from Gabriel Candido (8-4), block from Cengiz over Torres (9-4), and block from Cengiz over
Capkinoglu (10-4). Two points from Lagumdzija, attack and block are worth the 14-7, and the game ended 15-8, with a winning block from Cengiz over Torres.
