Golden European League: all results of Day 1 – victory for Turkey, Spain, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Belgium

Golden European League started on Wednesday. The competition will again feature 12 teams divided into three pools of four each, that will contest a double round robin in their groups, starting on May 25.
After completion of the pool phase on June 12, Croatia will be hosting the Final Four on June 18-19 – where the hosts will face the three pool winners.

In Pool A, Turkey started in a perfect way against Slovakia by beating the rivals with a clear 3-0 (25:15, 25:20, 25:20). In a match that lasted about 100 minutes, they did not leave any doubts over who was the better team on the court: 59% efficiency on the winning spikes (to 43%), 8 winning blocks (to five), and three aces.
The 2021 MVP Adis Lagumdzija was top scorer of the match with 27 points, while Peter Mlynarcik was the best on the other side of the net with 12 points.

In Pool B, CEV Volleyball European Silver League 2021 winners Denmark has been defeated by Spain at tie break (25:19, 17:25, 25:22, 22:25 and 10:15).

On the same Pool, 2021 silver medallists Ukraine started with three points their 2022 journey at the competition, after defeating by 3-1 the team of Croatia, who are also the hosts of the Final Four tournament this year.
Led for a very first time by their new head coach, former coach of Estonia Cedric Enard, played without Leo Andric, who is still competing with his current italian Serie A2 club Cuneo Volley, although showing good potential in the face of Petar Dirlic (top scorer with 22 points).
Ukraine, led by Oleh Plotyntskyi and Maksym Drozd, prevailed in the deciding moments of the game.

In Pool C, three points for Czech Republic who stun Estonia on the road, by beating the rivals by 1-3 (18:25, 27:25, 18:25, 22:25) with 10 aces and 26 points (59% in attack) by Patrick Indra while, on the same Pool, Belgium defeat Latvia in straight sets (25:16, 27:25, 25:16).
Mathijs Desmet and Basil Dermaux finished both as top scorers of the match each one with 16 points.
