VNL 2022: first win for the Netherlands and Slovenia. Tie break win for Serbia, Germany and USA, 3 more points for France

On the european night, The Netherlands staged a little upset in Brasília, Brazil, in their third encounter in Pool 1 of 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League. They lost both matches at the start, but today they beat Iran in straight-set (26:24, 25:21 and 25:21) in which Nimir Abdel-Aziz was the man of the match, putting down 20 points.
The beginning of the contest on Day 3 saw also the United States and France becoming the first teams to reach 3-0.
On the same Pool, the United States National Team overcame a tenacious Japan to win their third straight match: 3-2 (17:25, 25:15, 25:21, 26:28, 15:9). The USA (3-0) will have little time to rest before their early Saturday encounter against Pool hosts Brazil. In the first set, Japan played a great match. The United States reversed the deficit in the second set, not giving Japan a 2-0 lead. After losing a struggle in the fourth set, US head coach John Speraw can be satisfied with his team’s comeback in the fifth set. Outside hitter Aaron Russell and opposite Kyle Ensing were the top scorers for the third straight match. with 20 points each while middle blocker Jeff Jendryk II also contributed with 4 winning blocks. Japan’s top scorer in the first two matches which his team won, Yuji Nishida, didn’t play a single minute today.
The Slovenia National Team celebrated first victory. In Brasília, the European vice-champions were better than Australia, the native country of their head coach Mark Lebedew, who earned his first official win in his new role, with a 3-0 win (22:25, 20:25, 21:25). The most prolific player on the winning side was Rok Možič, author of 17 points through 76.19% attack (17/21).
In the 3rd round of the competition, Serbia, in their second match in less than 24 hours, was better than Argentina in Ottawa, Canada, in Pool 2, to record second triumph, while their rivals are at 1-2. Igor Kolaković’s side led 2-0 in sets, however, allowed the rivals to equalize, and then truly trampled them in the tie-break, leaving them at only 6 points. Serbia had as many as 5 double-digit players on the scoresheet, and the most efficient of them was Miran Kujundžić, who ended the game with 14 points.
On the same Pool, Germany celebrated their second victory in the Nations League: they prevailed against Bulgaria 2-3 (20:25, 25:22, 16:25, 25:20, 10:15). The best scorer for the team of the new head coach Michał Winiarski was the captain Christian Fromm, who ended the game with 21 points, while Tobias Krick set up 5 winning blocks.
Close the picture France, who won their third VNL match in three days, actually in the span of 48 hours, dominating Canada with a clear straight sets win (25:16, 25:23, 25:21) in front of the rival’s home fans in Ottawa. Barthélémy Chinenyeze top-scored Olympic champions with 15 points, 5 of which are winning blocks.
