2022 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League: Brazil disappoints 10,000 home supporters by laying down weapons before big rivals USA in big match of Pool 1. The hosts had a good starting point in match in Brasília in this duel between the two unbeaten sides in the competition, but then their play declined and lost first match in a Nilson Nelson arena sold out. With a 3-1 (21:25, 27:25, 25:20, 25:20) triumph, the North Americans remained side by side with France by still not losing in this edition of the Nations League: USA has 4-0, France 3-0. Opposite Jake Hanes ended the match with 20 points on the winning side.

Slovenia and Iran took the first two sets in their matches against China and Australia, respectively, without any problems. Then a crisis, and their rivals took advantage of. Slovenia, like other teams that faced China thus far, was a clear favorite. Since the beginning of the competition, the team from Asia can’t escape defeats no matter what it does. Today, China couldn’t cope with Rok Možič, who put down 17 points.
Iran was better than Australia, being especially dominant in the opening set when it allowed rivals to score only 14 points. Losing the third set to Australia didn’t spoil the overall impression of Iran.
Amin Esmaeilnezhad top-scored the Asian side with 23 points, while Mahdi Jelveh Ghaziani also contributed with 5 winning blocks.

In Pool 2 in Ottawa, Canada, Serbia fell to Germany in a dramatic tie-break. Serbia was on a firm path to grab the third victory, having everything in their hands but they squandered it. Germany overturned a 5-point lead of the opponent in the fourth set, at the moment when Serbia had 2-1 in sets, returned to life, and prevailed in a thrilling fifth set. Christian Fromm and Linus Weber were the most prolific players for Germany with 18 points each. The former made 4 blocks, one point fewer from this element than Florian Krage.

On the same Pool, Poland gave no chance to Bulgaria. Mostly thanks to Maciej Muzaj, who ended the game with 13 points, the world champions overcame a defeat against Italy (1-3) and swept Bulgaria in its third match in the tournament.

About Italy, they achieved a clear win over Pool 2 hosts Canada in their third match in the competition.
Ferdinando De Giorgi’s guys was the absolute master of the court: the match turned into the exhibition of rejuvenated European champions in which setter and captain Simone Giannelli successfully attacked several times, collecting a notable number of points for a player covering his role – 9 points. Mattia Bottolo and Yuri Romanò top-scored the winners with 13 points each.
