France send more than 7,000 fans home sad and teaches Italy lesson in second semifinal of the day!
France defeat Italy with a clear 3-0 (22:25, 20:25, 15:25) to join the United States in the final of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.
Thus Italy’s dream of winning the competition in front of their own crowd evaporated in the semi-finals. Not even an amazing atmosphere at the Unipol Arena made by over 7,300 fans helped defending European champions take at least one set from the current Olympic Games winners. Italian volleyball legend in command of France Andrea Giani, had his team’s star Earvin Ngapeth, author of 14 points including 4 aces tonight, at the disposal, unlike quarter-finals.
Recall that France arrived in the VNL final for the second time after that of the inaugural edition in 2018 and will challenge the USA tomorrow at 9 p.m. local time.
Jean Patry highlighted France in the semis with 16 points, while Trévor Clévenot had 15 points with a great 76.47% attack (13/17).
On Italy’s side, Alessandro Michieletto was the only one to reach the double digits with 10 points.
“We won 3-0, but it was not easy at all! Maybe in the last set they gave up a little bit, but not in the first two sets. We were ready to play this game. We knew they would start really hard and the key was to start stronger than them. We expected them to play amazing in front of their fans, but we stayed focused on the game, relying on our own team spirit. If USA receive really well in the final, they have really good spikers and can play fast everywhere. So if we want to win, first we have to serve really strong, like we did tonight, ” said Nicolas Le Goff, middle blocker of France, after the game.
