WCH 2022: All results of August 30 @ Ljubljana – Slovenia

3 min read

In second match of Pool B, Cuba gets shocked by Japan and no longer depends on itself in regard to progression to Round of 16!
Beating Cuba in the third round of the group stage of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball World Championship guarantees Japan a spot in the 1/8 finals.
The great game organization of Japan proved stronger than Cuba’s attacking power. Philippe Blain’s wards beat the rivals 3-1 (25:18, 21:25, 25:15, 25:19) and entered the elimination phase as one of the runners-up of the groups.
Victim of their many errors (38) and the better game of Japan, Cuba will now have to wait for other results of the last round to see if they can go to the next phase since Japan and Brazil take the two tickets of the group.
Actually, Brazil, who routinely beat Qatar today in first match of the day and their last match at this stage of the competition, (25:13, 25:23, 26:24) booked their ticket at the end of the second round.
Following what has been probably their worst performance in the World Championship 2022, Cuba remained at 4 points in third place in the pool and, if they finish among the best four third-placed sides in the overall ranking and go to the 1/8 finals it’ll mostly be due to the point snatched from Brazil in the opening day of the competition.
Yuji Nishida was the top scorer of for Japan with 19 points, while Taishi Onodera made 6 blocks. Jesús Herrera scored 20 points for Cuba.

FINAL STANDINGS OF POOL B
Brazil 8
Japan 6
Cuba 4
Qatar 0

Today the Italian expert was able to rest most of his usual starters.
Stéphen Boyer took the opportunity to finish top scorer with 19 points, while Yaoussi Kavogo scored 13 for the Africans.

In its last match of the group stage, the Slovenia National Team defeated Germany in an excellent manner in straight sets (25: 16, 25:22, 25:17) in less than an hour and a half and with this victory confirmed second place in Pool D, which they hosted in Ljubljana, and advancement to the Round of 16 (which they secured in last round) as the second seed.
