Poland completes first half of quarter-final bracket!
Following a clear victory over Tunisia, the national team of Poland signed its name to the list of quarter-final participants at the 2022 FIVB Volleyball World Championship.
The top seed in the knockout stage won the Round of 16 match against the lowest seeded Tunisia at home in Gliwice in straight sets (25:20, 25:15, 25:20), without lot of problems. Playing here for the first time in the event, the reigning world champions benefited from the support coming from the approximately 15,000 home fans that packed the stands.
In quarterfinals, they will play against the United States, who defeated Türkiye 3-2.
Contrary to their next rivals in the event, Nikola Grbić’s guys didn’t complicate things and avoided additional emotions in the match against an obvious outsiders.
Poland needed just over an hour to outplay the north African side, led by the Most Valuable Player of the last CEV Champions League Kamil Semeniuk, top scorer of the match with 13 points with 11 attacks, one block and one ace, and 62.50% efficiency rate in attack, and Jakub Kochanowski, author of 4 aces.
Aymen Bouguerra top-scored the rivals with 10 points, and he was the only player who reached a double digit for Tunisia.
The winners were dominant in all elements, outscoring the Tunisians in kills (42 to 28), blocks (five to two) and aces (nine to one).
Interestingly, Poland and USA have met three times already this season: the Europeans won the duels in the Preliminary Phase of the Volleyball Nations League and the Pool Phase of the World Championship, while the Americans emerged victorious in the semifinals of the VNL in Bologna, Italy.
