WCH 2022: this is Slovenia! Ukraine defeated 3-1, and it’s semifinal!

Plotnytskyi is not enough: Slovenia eliminates Ukraine to appear in semifinal for first time ever!

Yes, that’s true.
The Slovenia National Team continued their winning path by advancing to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIVB Volleyball World Championship, and this is another great success.
In the quarter-finals, the co-hosts defeated the Ukraine 3-1 (18:25, 26:24, 25:19, 25:23) in a full-packed hall in Ljubljana and qualified for the semi-finals of the elite competition for the first time in history.
Both sides registered the best results at the World Championship even before the evening showdown, which took place in the once again exceptional atmosphere of the Arena Stožice.
In fact, both are participating in the World Cup for only the second time, and both have earned a place in the quarter-finals for the first time!

In front of more than 11,000 home supporters in the nation’s capital, the national team of Slovenia overcame a rocky beginning to turn things around and overcome Ukraine, the sensation of the competition.
And, led by exceptional home fans, they grabbed control of the match, which the rivals ended with 33 unforced errors (compared to Slovenia’s 21).

Klemen Čebulj was decisive to Slovenia’s triumph, and led the team’s offense with his 23 points.
Oleh Plotnytskyi, captain and outside hitter of Ukraine, finished the game with an impressive amount of 30 points (including 4 blocks, 5 aces).
Making their first World Championship appearance, replacing disqualified Russia, Ukraine did better than the rivals in attack (54 to 50), blocks (nine to seven) and aces (seven to four). However, their 33 mistakes were the biggest difference between the two teams.

The quarterfinals will be concluded on Thursday, with two matches to be played in Gliwice, Poland.
In the first, which is set to start at 17.30 local time, South American rivals Brazil and Argentina will face each other. Later, at 21.00 local time, hosts Poland will face the United States.
In semifinals, Slovenia will face Italy who, in previous match of the day, defeated France at tie break.
