Poland: Jastrzębski earn clear victory in Silesian derby vs. Katowice in first match of Plusliga 2022/23

PlusLiga is back.
In the inaugural match of the 2022/23 regular season of the Polish Elite Volleyball Championship, the current runners-up Jastrzębski Węgiel defeated GKS Katowice 3-0 (25:23, 25:20, 28:26) at home.

The winners, however, were unable to prepare themselves for the debut of the new season clear-headed given a problem with the possible transfer ban that the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) intended to impose on the club, which would include the inability to use foreign players who constitute the major force of the squad.
The FIVB decided to give up on the punishment after Jastrzębski appealed, but such a decision came only on the eve of the match against Katowice.

Either way, in the ’Derby Śląska’ (Silesian Derby), the Jastrzębie-Zdrój side was a clear favorite, and they confirmed this on the field too, led by the Frenchman, Trévor Clévenot, who ended the game as top scorer with 20 points, 76% attack, 16/21. Jakub Szymański was the most prolific player with 16 on the other side of the net, while Bartosz Mariański had made 70% reception (10 digs, 40% perfect).
