Austria: defending champions Waldviertel and Hypo Tirol start 2022/23 season confidently, Ried stun Aich/Dob!

Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel did not show any problem at the start of the new Austrian Volley League season. The reigning champions, ÖVV Cup and also AVL Supercup winner easily defeat VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt with a clear 3-0 (25:17, 25:19, 25:20) lasted 1 hours and 10 minutes.
Straight sets win also for new combative Hypo Tirol, a team who’ll fight for the title. At their debut, they defeated TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg (26:24, 25:16, 25:18), struggling only in first sets. The man of the match was the Brazilian opposite Luan Weber, who ended the game with 26 points. Dmytro Fedorenko and Dorde Knezevic scored ten points each for Hartberg.
First upset of this new season is the four sets win of UVC McDonald’s Ried who, in the last game of the day, they defeated last season runners-up SK Zadruga Aich/Dob in their Raiffeisen Volleydome 3-1 (23:25, 25:18, 25:19, 25:17). The Carinthians were in very good shape in the first round of the CEV Champions League, as they defeated Budva from Montenegro twice, but it was not enough to defeat a great Ried today!
On Wednesday, Aich/Dob will face Finnish champions Ford Levoranta Sastamala in the second round of the Champions League, while Round 1 of Austrian Volley League continues tomorrow, on Sunday: UVC Holding Graz will face TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien, while VBC TLC Weiz will face VCA Amstetten NÖ.
