Sammelvuo named head coach of Canada

The men’s volleyball national team of Canada has a new head coach, well-known former player and Olympic medalist Tuomas Sammelvuo.
The Finn is currently at the helm of the reigning European and Polish club champions Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.

As an outside hitter, he previously played professionally in Europe and Asia, but also for his home country’s national team from 1993 to 2010, captain in 1997.
The 46-year-old expert formerly served as the Finland Men head coach but had the most success commanding the Russia National Team, triumphing in the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League and taking the silver at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
He was named Volleyball Coach of the Year in his native nation in 2014 and 2021, among other coaching honors.

The national team of Canada is currently ranked 15th in the world.
