Austria: Ried defeat titleholders! Three points for Aich/Dob, Hartberg and Weiz. Hypo Tirol defeat Amstetten at tie break
2 min read
Round 6 of Austrian Volley League 2022/23 was entirely played today.
Hypo Tirol remains the current leader after a 3-2 (25:22, 20:25, 25:18, 30:32, 15:9) home win over VCA Amstetten NÖ in the big match of the day. In fourth set the team from Innsbruck was 24:22 ahead, but wasted three match points and the match was solved at tie-break. The man of the match was the Brazilian Luan Weber, who ended the game with 34 points!
Amstetten, however, are only the second team to steal a point from the undefeated leaders after UVC McDonald’s Ried, in Round 3.
About Ried, they caused an upset today by beating defending champions Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel in a hard-fought 3-1 (26:28, 25:22, 25:23, 26:24). For them, it was the second defeat in a row after the 3-1 on the field of SK Zadruga Aich/Dob a week ago.
The runner-up also lost this season in the Raiffeisen Volleydome Ried!
In the Carinthian Derby on the field of last-placed and still winless VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt, Aich/Dob widely confirmed their role as favourites with a straight sets win (25:22, 25:18, 25:23), celebrating their fifth win in a row across all competitions.
Three points also for TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg, who defeated TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien with the same result (25:19, 25:23, 25:19).
Close the picture VBC TLC Weiz, able to celebrate the second win of the season, as well as second win in a row. Coach Michael Murauer’s side celebrated a 3-1 (21:25, 25:22, 25:14, 25:19) home win over UVC Holding Graz in the Derby. The 2021 champions, on the other hand, are still in crisis, having suffered the eighth defeat in a row across all competitions, while Weiz boast now eight points and they are competing for the playoffs.
