Turkey: what happened in Round 13

Round 13 of 2022/23 AXA Sigorta Efeler Ligi has been played today.

As predicted, Spor Toto sweep last-placed Tokat BLD Plevne 3-0 (25:21, 25:17, 25:15), and Türsad down Hekimoglu Global Connect Travel BVI with the same result (25:21, 25:22, 28:26). Three points also for Hatay B. Sehir Bld, who won in four sets on the field of Develi Bld., partially 20:25, 25:23, 22:25 and 22:25.

In what was probably the most interesting game of the day, among two big names of Turkish volleyball, Arkas Spor recover from the heavy defeat and consequently elimination in CEV Cup last Wednesday and won in four sets on the field of Galatasaray HDI Sigorta – 1-3 (25:22, 8:25, 22:25, 23:25).
Galatasaray, one of the five favorites for the title in the competition, got ashamed of another team having such a status, the four-time champions of Turkey Arkas Spor.
The İzmir side reached its fourth win in a row, leaving the rivals with only eight points in the second set, after which they tied the match at 1-1 and opened their way toward a win. Arkas remained third in the standings with 29 points and 10-3, while Galatasaray continued in seventh place (24 points, 8-5).
Mirza Lagumdžija, the younger sibling of a more famous Turkey National Team member (and current player of Italy’s Valsa Group Modena) Adis Lagumdžija, top-scored Arkas today with 18 points, while Bertuğ Öndeş collected 5 blocks. Australian opposite Thomas Edgar tallied 19 points for Galatasaray.

All easy for other two bigs: Fenerbahçe HDI Sigorta routinely defeat Altekma on the road, 0-3 (21:25, 19:25, 20:25), and leaders Halkbank did the same on the field of Bursa Büyüksehir Belediye Spor, 0-3 (15:25, 22:25, 21:25).

A last match of this round will be played today, and Ziraat will face Cizre on the road.
