What a superiority in 2022/23 Superlega CredemBanca!
Sir Safety Susa Perugia break down Modena in big match of Round 16 (or, if you prefer, Round 5 of second leg) and triumph in regular season 6 rounds before end!
Yes, Perugia is the king of the regular season.
After making a comeback from a one-set deficit, they conquered always-hot PalaPanini in four sets, partially 25:23, 23:25, 16:25 and 18:25, overcoming the hosts Valsa Group Modena and thus celebrating mathematical certainty of first place in the regular season with six rounds to spare. Perugia earned their 28th consecutive season victory overall, also in front of the rivalās sold-out hall with 5,000 spectators, with a very strong performance, particularly in the second set. Down by a set and 20-22, Andrea Anastasiās guys found a way out and tied at 1-1 in sets. From that moment on, the current vice champions improved their play by a few notches.
Cuban-Polish Wilfredo León finished with a match-high 19 points including four aces, while his countryman by birth Jesús Herrera had 71% attack (10 of 14).
The Frenchman Earvin Ngapeth was the top scorer for Modena, who remained third, with 17 points.
Therefore, Perugia created an untouchable advantage of 19 points and seven wins in relation to the closest follower, which is Itas Trentino, who beat Cucine Lube Civitanova 3-1 in one of yesterday’s advances.
Big match and Super Perugia apart, WithU Verona staged an upset celebrating first victory of 2023 by beating a disappointing Allianz Milano in just three sets (25:23, 27:25, 25:21), the same Milano who defeated Modena, just a week ago.
The hosts made the difference above all in blocking, but also in all other elements, with Sapozhkov (16 points), Keita (15) and Mozic (13) decisive in attack.
Victory and 3 points also for last-placed Emma Villas Aubay Siena, who defeated Top Volley Cisterna by 3-1 (22:25, 25:19, 25:22, 25:18), but lose opposite Giulio Pinali for an ankle injury, suffered at the end of third set, and for another team protagonist in the struggle for salvation, Pallavolo Padova, who played a great game and trampled over Gioiella Prisma Taranto, beating the rivals in just three sets (25:21, 25:21, 25:20).
The winners were better in all elements, with the only exception for blocking: only 4 points, and all in third set, against the 10 of Taranto (4 by Loeppky, top scorer or the game with 20 points, and basically the only one rivals of Padova). MVP award to japanese star Ran Takahashi, author of 18 points with 59% in attack (88% in first set) and 5 aces, but good also Asparuh Asparuhov with 16 punti, 54% in attack and 1 ace.
