Challenge Cup: Olympiacos and Tel Aviv to semifinals

After Orion Doetinchem from The Netherlands and Portugal’s A.J. Fonte Bastardo, also Greece’s Olympiacos Piraeus and Israel’s Maccabi Yeadim Tel Aviv are qualified to 2022/23 CEV Challenge Cup semifinals.

Today Olympiacos take first two sets without major problems in Romania, on the field of Steaua Bucuresti they need to progress to the next stage of the competition, and the won the game by 2-3 (15:25, 21:25, 25:15, 25:20, 11:15).
The Greek side had in fact a 3-1 win from the first match in their pocket and entered with a strong mentality from the first set to secure advancement to the top 4 as soon as possible. Even though the win today wasn’t necessary, Olympiacos ultimately celebrated a 3-2 victory, with Slovenian Tonček Štern top scorer of the game with 10 points. Ciprian Matei scored 15 for Bucuresti. They will face their archrivals Panathinaikos Athens in the semifinals, and It will be the first meeting between Greek teams in the semifinals of an European competition!

No upsets in second game of the day in which, after a clear 3-0 in first leg, Israel’s Maccabi Yeadim Tel Aviv down Omonia Nicosia on the road in four sets (22:25, 23:25, 25:21, 12:25).
