Italy: Perugia 33/33! Tie break win for Verona, Civitanova, Padova, and Trento (after a great comeback in Milano)
4 min read
After a direct clash to stay in italian top division played yesterday, in which Gioiella Prisma Taranto needed five sets to defeat Emma Villas Aubay Siena, Round 20 of 2022/23 Superlega CredemBanca or, if you prefer, Round 9 of second leg, has been completed today.
Our Sunday of italian volleyball started with another win of Sir Safety Susa Perugia, more precisely the N.33 in a row, counting all competition!
And today they did their homework also against Top Volley Cisterna, a performance that was enough to close the game 3-0 (25:23, 25:18, 25:22), although a (luckily) minor ankle injury of bomber Wilfredo Leon who, was forced to stop the game (but eventually he remained to the field), in front of more than 2700 enthusiastic home fans.
Perugia easily won first set, led the game also in the second, and have to recover a disadvantage of 6 points in third, starting from 8-14, then closed 25-22 by Herrera.
The winners made the difference above all in attack (64% of team performance against 44% of Cisterna), and in blocking (10, 4 by Flavio, against 5 of the rivals) but decisive also the 6 aces, 4 by MVP Plotnytskyi, who ended the game with 19 points, 2 winning blocks and 68% in attack.
In the first match played today and ended in five sets, WithU Verona won 3-2 (25:19, 28:26, 19:25, 20:25, 15:10) against Valsa Group Modena. The game was also marked by the return to the field Verona starting opposite Sapozhkov, who was the top scorer of the game with 29 points, while Keita and Mozic also contributed with 19 each.
Meanwhile, in Civitanova, another volleyball show in 5 sets and a victory for the home team. Cucine Lube Civitanova managed to reverse a 0-2 disadvantage and beat Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza at tie break (18:25, 22:25, 25:23, 25:23, 15:13). Civitanova achieved a very important victory, and with 32 points and 1 less game played, kept the fourth place in the standings.
The bad news for Piacenza is the ankle injury of Leal, forced to leave the field at the end of fourth set, replaced by a very good Recine, author of a great monster block, but also good from the service line.
MVP of the match Alex Nikolov, 15 points with 2 aces e and block, but good also Zaytsev with 20 points, 1 ace and 3 block, and Yant, who also contributed with 14 points.
On the losing side, best scorer is Romanò, able to score 22 points with 1 block and as many as 7 aces!
In double digit also Lucarelli, Simon e Leal.
After a great fight, Padova wins two very important points in the fight to stay in the SuperLega next season. They won on the field of Vero Volley Monza, at tie break too (24:26, 25:17, 25:17, 20:25, 13:15), taking not one but two steps to avoid relegation. Ran Takahashi ended the game as top scorer with 21 points.
The round full of matches in 5 sets was closed by the clash between Allianz Milano and Itas Trentino, in which the visiting side staged an impressive comeback recovering from 2-0 disadvantage 2-3 (25:22, 26:24, 23:25, 24:26, 8:15), in front of 5011 volleyball fans (including italian singer Marco Mengoni, the winner of prestigious Sanremo Festival).
Milano played really a good game, in which 23 points from Patry, 18 by Japanese superstar Ishikawa and 12 by Ebadipour were not enough while, on the winning side, the guys around Coach Lorenzetti have deserved the victory, led by MVP Michieletto and 21 points from Bulgarian veteran Matej Kaziyski.
