France | Ligue B | Quarterfinals Game 1 – victory for Saint-Jean D’Illac, St. Quentin, Cannes and Mende
2 min read
It’s Playoffs time in French Ligue B!
And the clash for a spot in next Ligue A started today with Games 1 of quarterfinals, played with a best-of-five formula.
Competition’s leaders Saint-Jean D’Illac (1) needed five sets to defeat No.8 and Coupe de France quarterfinalist Ajaccio.
The thrilling tie break has been solved with these results – 22:25, 25:23, 28:26, 21:25 and 18:16 – with 30 points by Lucas Lilembo, including 1 ace and 56% in attack.
Tie break win also for No.3 St-Quentin over No.6 Avignon (25:23, 22:25, 25:16, 23:25, 15:12), a match played on a very high level in attack, and solved above all thanks to Daniel Martins De Pinho, who scored as many as 37 points through an impressive (a very impressive) 83% in attack (and 3 aces). And he was named MVP, of course.
After losing first set, No.4 Cannes is the only team who won on the road, by winning in four sets on the field of No.4 Rennes (25:19, 18:25, 19:25, 18:25). Decisive the opposite Roland Jimenez, top scorer with 23 points, 4 blocks and 63% in attack, but MVP award went to newcomer Omar Biglino. Italian middleblocker ended the game with 14 points, 4 blocks too and 71% in attack (10/14).
Close the picture No.2 Mende’s victory over No.7 Martigues. The game ended in straight sets, partially 25:18, 25:22 and 36:34.
MVP of the match libero Maxime Cheung with 71% positive reception and 50% perfect, while Manuel Balague ended the game as top scorer with 19 points, 2 blocks, 1 ace and 55% in attack.
