2 min read
The national teams of Türkiye and Qatar are ready to make history.
They are set to compete for a place in the prestigious Volleyball Nations League 2024, marking a first-time appearance for either team.
This decisive match-up follows their victorious performances in the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball Challenger Cup 2023 in Doha.
In a thrilling game, Türkiye defeated Ukraine in an exciting five-set game, emerging victorious 3-2 (18:25, 25:23, 25:17, 19:25, 15:13) to secure their berth in the gold medal match.
Adis Lagumdzija led the Turkish team’s offense against the fellow European rivals scoring 19 points, while Burutay Subasi and Efe Bayram also contributed with 14 and 10, respectively. Despite a desperate effort by captain Oleh Plotnytskyi, top scorer of the match with 22 points, nothing to do for Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Qatar clinched a clean victory against Chile in the second semifinal, earning a commanding 3-0 (25:21, 25:22, 27:25) victory.
Youssef Oughlaf led the Qatari team with 16 points, followed by Raimi Wadidie’s 12. Dusan Bonacic of Chile managed to performe the highest individual score of the match with 18 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
As the final act, it’s worth noting that this will be the second clash between Türkiye and Qatar’s national teams. Their first duel occurred in the quarterfinals of the previous tournament in 2022, where Türkiye defeated Qatar by 3-1!
