Eurovolley2023: first win for Czech Republic and 3 points for Poland in Pool C. Tie break win for Romania and Greece in Pool D

Pool C and Pool D of 2023 CEV Eurovolley continued today with 4 games.

In Skopje, North Macedonia, Czech Republic needed four sets to beat Denmark – 1-3 (15:25, 25:23, 27:29, 22:25), and to celebrate the first win in the tournament after their debut yesterday (and a clear defeat against Poland).
To make the difference were the 14 winning blocks (against 7 of Denmark), but also most concentration in the key moments of the game, above all in decisive third set, ended overtime after 40 minutes of play. Top scorer of the game a player of Denmark, Rasmus Nielsen, who ended the twne with 26 points, 62% in attack, 1 block and 2 aces, while Marek Sotola was the most prolific player on the winning side with 24 points through 55% in attack, 5 winning blocks and 4 aces.

Czech Republic will face The Netherlands tomorrow, who today suffered a defeat against one of title contenders Poland, after winning first set with the minimum gap – 1-3 (25:23, 13:25, 19:25, 22:25). Wilfredo Leon was the top scorer of the game with 20 points, while Norber Huber also contributed with 4 of his team’s 13 winning blocks.
As usual, Nimir Abdel-Aziz was the most productive player for The Netherlands.

A little bit different Pool D in Tel Aviv, Israel, in which both games ended at tie break.
After 141 minutes of play, Romania managed to defeay Türkiye in a never ending game that has been solved only at 17-15 of fifth set (25:22, 18:25, 25:21, 23:25, 17:15), with 29 points by Alexandru Rata, absolute top scorer of the match (54% in attack, 1 block and 1 ace).
In the evening, Portugal wasted a 2-0 led and then suffered Greece’s comeback: 2-3 (25:22, 25:19, 20:25, 16:25, 12:15).
Decisive the 15 winning blocks (7 also fom Georgios Petreas, who played a great game scoring 17 points through as many as 90% in attack, 9/10 without errors or blocked), and 28 points from Dimitrios Mouchlias, absolute top scorer of the match (60% in attack and 2 winning blocks).
In what was a very balanced pool, tomorrow Greece will face Türkiye, while hosts Israel will face France for the top.
