Eurovolley2023: Pool B is over and Slovenia advances unbeaten in Round of 16! 3 points for Belgium and Serbia in Pool A.

On the penultimate day of Pool A of CEV EuroVolley 2023, Serbia and Belgium solidified their standing claiming two decisive victories.

In the evening, Serbia demonstrated all their power by defeating Germany with a convincing 3-1 (25:22, 20:25, 25:22, 25:19). György Grozer led the scoreboard with an impressive 22 points on the losing side through 56% in attack, while for Serbia the most effective were Drazen Luburic and Miran Kujundzic with 15 and 14 points respectively.
After this win, Igor Kolakovic’s guys has guaranteed their position in second place in POOL A.
Looking ahead, Serbia’s round of 16 opponents will be determined tomorrow, as they are set to face either Czech Republic or North Macedonia from Pool C.
Germany, on the other hand, will face the Netherlands.

Earlier in the day, Belgium cemented their place in the next round by triumphing over Estonia by 3-1 (25:18, 25:17, 12:25, 25:19), a win that ensured their progression to the EuroVolley round of 16.
Opposite Ferre Reggers played anlther great performance scoring as many as 27 points through 60% in attack, including 2 aces and 1 block.

In a thrilling Pool B match, Slovenia emerged victorious against the hosts, Bulgaria, with a score of 3-0 (31:29, 25:22, 32:30) after an exciting two-hour battle.
Tsvetan Sokolov in Bulgaria’s jersey was the top scorer of the match with 23 points through 60% in attack, while for Slovenia Rok Mozic scored 22 points (66% in attack and 3 aces), while Tine Urnaut also contributed with 14.
This was their fifth consecutive win, earning them a maximum of 15 points and so they will face Türkiye in the eight final match on Friday, always in Varna.
Slovenians completed the pool stage without a single defeat.
Their journey began with a 3-1 win over Ukraine, followed by sweeping victories against Finland, Spain, Croatia, to close the group stage today by besting the Bulgarian hosts without losing a single set.
Their opponents are the fourth-ranked team from Group D in Tel Aviv, Türkiye, who defeated the hosts Israel in straight sets.

Earlier on this day the day, Ukraine secured their spot in the Round of 16 with a 3-0 (25:21, 25:21, 25:19) win against Spain.
They’ll play against the Olympic champions France!
Standout players for Ukraine were Oleh Plotnytskyi and Vasyl Tupchii, who scored 15 points each, while Spain’s top scorer was Andres Villena with 17 points.
