Challenge Cup: all results of second day of Qualification Round

After a troubled start of 2023/24 CEV Challenge Cup qualification round, started yesterday, the competition continued today with 8 games scheduled, all played.
The day started with a hard-fought straight sets win of a team from Azerbaijan, Khari Byul Byul Shusha, against Slovakia’s TJ Spartak Myjava, 3-0 (25:23, 25:21, 27:25). Interestingly, no players on the winning side reached a double digit!
Also Myjava’s compatriots Rieker UJS Komárno suffered a defeat, as VC Stroossen from Luxembourg made a comeback and, after losing first two sets, managed to win the game by 2-3 (25:15, 27:25, 19:25, 18:25, 10:15) with 27 points from Mateja Gajin.
Not a good day,on the other hand, for the other team from Luxembourg in this tournament, VC Lorentzweiler, who was defeated in four sets by Romania’s Steaua Bucuresti 1-3 (16:25, 25:23, 16:25, 23:25) on their home court with 13 winning blocks and 24 points from top scorer Gabriel Cherbeleata (57% in attack, 3 blocks and 2 aces).
Among three teams from Slovenia, only one celebrated a victory today, Panvita Pomgrad Murska Sobota, who needed five sets to prevail over Cyprus’ Omonia Nicosia after almost wasting a 2-0 lead (25:20, 25:21, 21:25, 30:32, 15:12).
No smiles for Merkur Maribor, defeated at home with the score of 1-3 (21:25, 25:22, 25:27, 21:25) by Akaa Volley from Finland, led by a great Matej Smidl, absolute top scorer of the match with 28 points to his name, and Triglav Kranj, defeated at home too by Bulgaria’s Deya Volley Burgas with the same result (25:22, 22:25, 22:25, 22:25).
Close the picture Serbia’s Spartak Subotica clear win over Førde VBK from Norway, 3-0 (25:21, 25:12, 25:20), and the away win by The Netherlands’ Numidia VC Limax Linne over Mjølnir Klaksvìk from Faroe Islands, 1-3 (25:11, 22:25, 11:25, 15:25).
