Italy: two tie breaks in advances of Round 2! Modena and Trento victorious

In the two Round 2 advances of 2023/24 Italian SuperLega Credem Banca, the volleyball fans were amazed with two tie breaks in which Modena and Trento clinched hard-fought victories.

In the first one, Valsa Group Modena made a dramatic comeback on the field of Rana Verona.
In a tense clash, they rallied from 2-0 down to secure a thrilling 2-3 (25:23, 25:17, 20:25, 23:25, 11:15) win over the rivals.
The match began evenly, but Verona’s strong play initially seemed too much for Modena.
However, a shift in momentum in the third set saw Modena claw their way back into contention and eventually win the game. Tommaso Rinaldi was named MVP of the match with 18 points to his name, the same number of points of Osmany Juantorena, while Sapozhkov ended the game as top scorer with 23 points.

“We started poorly in the third set and faced challenges. We need to work on managing such on-field situations,” said head coach of Rana Verona Radostin Stoytchev.

In the evening Itas Trentino, the reigning Italian Champions, played a nail-biting battle before beating Gioiella Prisma Taranto 3-2 (25:16, 23:25, 18:25, 26:24, 15:8) in front of their home fans.
Despite their inconsistent gameplay, Trentino managed to replicate a similar victory pattern to their previous match on the field of Cisterna. Kyle Russell from Taranto ended the game as top scorer with 28 points (52% in attack and 3 aces), while Kamil Rychlicki of Itas Trentino was awarded MVP of the match with 23 points to his name through 60% in attack and 2 blocks.
“Our belief carried us through tough moments. This win boosts our confidence greatly,” he said.

Vincenzo Mastrangelo, head coach of Gioiella Prisma Taranto: “We were initially under pressure, but we fought back in the middle sets. We’ll analyze our game approach and improve.”
